A historical account detailing the establishment of Estonia’s initial border demarcation was documented following a Kaitseliidu (Defenders’ League) training exercise named “Riigipiir.” This event took place on August 2, 1990, in the village of Komarovka, located in Russia. During the exercise, the first recognized border point of the Republic of Estonia was established and formally marked with blue-and-white border posts. Photographic records from the event feature members of the Kaitseliit from Viru County. This historical summary was relayed by Manivald Kasepõld, the Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Officers’ Council. Kasepõld’s report also addressed the current sentiments among veterans who served in the Kaitseliit, the Home Guard, the Border Guard, and the Army reconstruction efforts between 1990 and 1994. The narrative highlights ongoing apprehension among these veterans regarding current political developments. The concern expressed by these veterans relates to the direction of national security and defense structures.
