Darla, Amur Leopard, Celebrates Birthday at Tallinn Zoo

Tallinn Zoo marked the 17th of April with a quiet celebration honoring Darla, an elderly Amur leopard resident. The event coincided with the zoo’s school break theme week for younger visitors. Darla, a long-lived leopard, is known for her calm and observant nature.

According to zoo staff, she prefers a tranquil existence within her enclosure, moving with quiet stealth and often seeking warmth in the spring sunshine on elevated platforms. This allows her to carefully observe her surroundings while enjoying periods of rest. The birthday was marked with a modest celebration, reflecting Darla’s preference for solitude.

However, visitors are still welcome to observe the leopard and learn about Amur leopard conservation efforts. Photographer Inari Leiman captured a portrait of Darla during the occasion. The zoo continues to highlight Darla’s unique characteristics and the importance of protecting this critically endangered species.

Guests can visit Darla and learn more about her story.
