Orkla to Cease Production of Põltsamaa Strong Mustard

Põltsamaa, Estonia – The production of Põltsamaa strong mustard will be discontinued following a decision by Orkla Estonia. The announcement, initially reported in August 2025 on an online forum, confirms the end of the iconic Estonian mustard’s production. Sven Voites, head of Svensky Trading, stated that the volume of Põltsamaa strong mustard production was “unfortunately not enough.” He noted that Orkla itself produces mustard utilizing the same recipe.

Orkla’s communication department confirmed that the mustard’s production and marketing will now operate under the Felix brand. The production will be relocated to Orkla’s factory in Latvia. Felix mustards are expected to become available to consumers starting in April.

The sale of the Põltsamaa plant was first disclosed through online channels. This shift represents a significant change for the Estonian market, marking the end of an era for the popular mustard product. The focus remains on ensuring a continued supply of Felix mustards following the transition.
