ECSI Hosts Presentation of Estonian Forest Brothers Collection

Tallinn, Estonia – The Estonian Cultural Society of Germany (ECSI) recently hosted a presentation of a newly published collection dedicated to the Estonian Forest Brothers. The event, attended by prominent figures including Hellar Lill, Peeter Kaasik, Meelis Saueauk, and Tõnu Tannberg, showcased the significant historical material. Photographer Margus Ansu captured the scene at the ECSI hall.

The collection itself represents a rare offering, and the presentation drew considerable interest. Notably, attendees engaged with a traditional Estonian lullaby, “Ai- tsihh, ai- tsahh, ai- tsahh, ai- velled, we Forest Brothers are…” – a poignant reference to the group’s origins. The Forest Brothers were a significant element of Estonian resistance during the period following the regaining of independence in 1918.

This collection aims to document their activities and legacy. The event highlighted the continued importance of preserving and sharing these historical narratives. The inclusion of the familiar refrain “tsahh” – a traditional Estonian expression – underscored the deep connection to the group’s heritage and the enduring nature of this important collection.

Further details regarding the collection’s contents are expected to be released shortly.
