Community Efforts Focus on Preserving Halinga Viaduct

Local residents and interested parties undertook a project near Pärnu-Jaagupi, Estonia, on the final day of the week to protect the Halinga viaduct, a remnant of the former Via Baltica route. The activity occurred under near-full moon conditions as individuals walked along the road adjacent to the viaduct, close to Halinga. The Halinga viaduct is a significant structure, originally built as a railway bridge for the Lavassaare-Tootsi narrow-gauge railway.

Opened in 1983, the railway served a briquetting plant that utilized peat supplies. The railway line, which connected to the Tallinn-Pärnu-Ikla highway, operated until 2009. The purpose of the recent activity was to safeguard the viaduct from potential damage.

Sand was strategically placed at the base of the structure. Footage of the event was captured in a video. This initiative reflects a growing interest in preserving historical infrastructure and highlights the ongoing efforts to document and protect sites like the Halinga viaduct.
