A meteor with a diameter of about 1.8 meters appeared in the sky about 80 kilometers above Lake Erie. It flew through the upper layers of the atmosphere 55 kilometers before it broke up over Valley City. When it broke up, energy equivalent to 250 tons of TNT was released, causing a strong boom.
