Astronomer Tõnu Viik will speak at the Free Academy on March 24th about gamma-ray bursts in space. The lecture, presented by Postimees TV editor Eveliis Mee, will explore the discovery of these objects and its connection to international diplomacy. The research was initially facilitated by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, with the United States deploying satellites to monitor potential violations by the Soviet Union. Details of this event will be discussed in the lecture. The Free Academy, established in 2018, is an Estonian association of scholars including scientists, thinkers, and students.
