Madis Mihkels’s Paris-Roubaix Campaign Cut Short by Mechanical Issues

Madis Mihkels of EF Education – EasyPost finished 80th in Sunday’s Paris – Roubaix one-day race, a challenging event spanning 258 kilometers. The Estonian rider faced significant difficulties throughout the race. Mihkels experienced a series of mechanical problems, with his bicycle suffering three tire punctures – two occurring on the asphalt.

“Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it anymore,” Mihkels stated following the race, noting a positive overall mood despite the setbacks. The race culminated in a victory for Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert, who surged ahead of world champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) in a final sprint. Van Aert initiated his decisive attack on the 12th corner, with Pogacar only able to close the gap in the final moments.

This year’s race was marked by a high level of competition and numerous challenges for the riders. Mihkels’s team faced considerable disruption due to the repeated tire failures, highlighting the demanding nature of the iconic Paris-Roubaix course. The rider reported three times his tire burst during the race.
