Tiidrek Nurme finished second at the marathon in New York, USA, on October 15, 2023. The Estonian long-distance runner achieved second place in the event. Nurme has previously recorded distances of 2:13.28 faster than any other person in the world three times, with a personal best of 2:10.02 set in 2020. At the marathon in Eritrea, Nurme led the competition ahead of McKirdy, representing Georgia. Tsegay Tuemay, the Eritrean representative, ran 2:11.04. “The competition reminded me of elite races in Japan, where only fast runners were allowed. There was no passing or sharing of money, only running according to the plan and maximum effort. It was great to see many people’s successes, and it was nice to watch them run,” Nurme wrote on social media.
