Russian climber Natalia Oleneva, 38, died following an accident during a mountaineering expedition in the Himalayas on October 15, 2023. Oleneva, a multiple-time Russian champion in rock climbing, had previously summited seven of the world’s highest peaks. She was participating in a hike organized by the Ministry of Sports of Russia and the Alpine Association when she fell into a lake at an altitude of approximately 6680 meters on Saturday. According to GPS data, the fall occurred from a height of approximately 500 meters. Rescuers, dispatched by helicopter, located Oleneva’s body. Due to the terrain, a landing was deemed impossible.
