Russia’s top climber, Nadezhda Oleneva, 38, was found dead in the Himalayas following an accident during a climbing expedition. Oleneva, a multiple Russian climbing champion, had previously summited seven of the world’s highest peaks. She was participating in a trip organized by the Ministry of Sports and the climbing association when she fell approximately 6,680 meters on Saturday while climbing Dhaulagiri, which reaches 8,167 meters. A helicopter dispatched to the site located Oleneva’s body, however, due to the terrain, a landing was deemed impossible. The incident occurred at approximately 500 meters during her climb.
