The remains of a man who was missing last year were found in Võru, Southern Estonia. Police announced today that the remains are most likely those of Aivar, a 60-year-old man who disappeared in December 2022. The discovery was made yesterday afternoon after the Southern Estonia Post Office in Võru reported finding the remains.

Police and ambulance services responded to the scene. Clothing items and a personal identification document belonging to Aivar were also found near the remains, located near the Räpina highway. “It is most likely that the remains found belong to the missing man, but we can only confirm this once DNA testing has been carried out on the remains,” said Pirjo Neissaar, press officer for the Police and Border Guard Board.

In early December 2022, police launched a search for Aivar after he left his home without informing his family. Concerned relatives reported his disappearance after weeks of no contact, noting his habit of leaving without saying goodbye and leaving personal belongings behind. Authorities searched Aivar’s Võru residence and other frequented locations, but his mobile phone was switched off.
