Tartu City Considers Fee Increase for Municipalities Utilizing Animal Shelter

Tartu’s city administration has notified 15 municipalities regarding a proposed adjustment to fees for utilizing the city’s animal shelter for homeless animals. In January, a notice was sent to municipalities currently employing the shelter’s services, outlining a planned increase from the existing rate of 2.52 euros per inhabitant. The city intends to raise this fee to 2.52 euros per inhabitant.

This change follows initial feedback indicating the proposed increase was considered excessive by the affected municipalities. To address this, a meeting is scheduled to take place next week at the Tartu animal shelter. Representatives from the city and the participating municipalities will convene to discuss the proposed fee adjustment and explore potential solutions.

The meeting aims to facilitate open communication and determine a mutually agreeable framework for the continued use of the shelter. The current arrangement sees various municipalities relying on the shelter for the care and management of animals in need. The city’s rationale for the adjustment is currently under review, and further details will be released following the upcoming meeting.

The focus remains on ensuring the ongoing operation of the shelter and its services to the municipalities involved.
