Estonia’s Head of the Riigikogu Commission for Foreign Affairs, Marko Mihkelson, is scheduled to travel to war-torn Israel. The announcement was made by the Parliament’s press service on October 15, 2023. The trip, planned prior to the commencement of hostilities, will see Mihkelson join a delegation of chairs from Baltic countries’ parliamentary committees on foreign affairs in Jerusalem from October 18 to October 18.

The conflict in Israel began on October 7 with rocket attacks launched by Hamas from the Gaza Strip targeting Israeli territory. Hamas militants subsequently breached the coastal strip’s blockade and engaged in combat with Israeli forces. Following the outbreak of hostilities, Mihkelson stated that the Islamic resistance movement Hamas, attacking Israel, is likely to receive support from Iran and Russia.
