Construction Preparations Begin Around Siuru Site

Tomorrow, construction activity will commence around the proposed site for the Siuru cultural center following archaeological research. A perimeter of construction fencing will be erected within the middle park, clearly delineating the research area and marked with orange signage indicating the playground’s location within the zone. The project will involve a significant undertaking, with nine trees slated for removal from the middle park over the next week to facilitate access for construction equipment.

Further removal of approximately twelve additional trees is proposed, all situated within the designated research area. This initiative will result in a total of 21 trees being removed from the park this spring, primarily from the area adjacent to the mall. The archaeological investigation, expected to last nearly one and a half years, will focus on the area surrounding the future Siuru center.

The project team’s plan involves establishing a controlled construction area to ensure the integrity of the archaeological findings. The surrounding area will be secured with fencing to manage access and protect the ongoing research.

  1. It’s a bittersweet moment to see the gardens flourish while the old trees are removed for this new project.
