The Central Criminal Police has opened a criminal investigation into the use of a Riigikogu fuel card by Member of Parliament Kalle Grönthal (EKRE). Reporting by Äripäev and Eesti Ekspress detailed instances of Grönthal filling his vehicle with petrol and diesel at five-minute intervals, with the fuel card being used concurrently while he was present in Riigikogu halls. The investigation is prompted by concerns that Riigikogu MPs’ fuel cards may have been utilized for fuel theft. Kauri Sinkewitz, the prosecutor’s public relations adviser, stated that the case was opened to examine the circumstances. Kalle Grönthal declined to comment on the situation when interviewed by Postimees, advising journalists to conduct thorough research and understand legal matters before reporting on the matter. Grönthal also accused journalists of attempting to damage his reputation and distract from Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. The investigation focuses on the use of fuel cards by members of the riigikogu.
