The European Commission is developing measures to address high energy prices. According to reports, energy companies will be required to contribute to the payment of electricity bills by the population. This represents an emergency measure proposed by the European Commission to combat rising energy costs, as reported by “Aktuaalne kaamera” on Wednesday.

Brussels intends for companies extracting fossil fuels to redirect a portion of their increased profits to subsidize residential heating and lighting. This action is described as an expression of solidarity, according to Euronews. Furthermore, the European Commission aims to reduce the income of the Russian Federation through limitations on the purchase price of Russian pipeline gas, in addition to existing sanctions.
