Vanemuine Theatre Seeks Alternative Venue Following Contract Termination with Estonia

The Estonian National Theatre, Vanemuine, is exploring new performance locations following the termination of agreements with the Estonian stage. According to Aivar Mäe, the head of the Vanemuine theatre, several agreements with Estonia have already been concluded. In a February interview with the Estonian Post, Mäe stated that the Vanemuine theatre no longer permits its performances as guest engagements within Estonia.

Subsequent to this, during an interview with Estonian Radio on Sunday, Mäe elaborated on the situation. He confirmed that the absence of ongoing agreements with Estonia has prompted the theatre to seek alternative venues for its productions. Specifically, the Vanemuine theatre intends to stage music theatre performances at the Alexela concert hall.

This shift represents a significant change in the theatre’s operational strategy within Estonia. The Vanemuine theatre, a cornerstone of Estonian cultural institutions, is actively pursuing new opportunities to continue offering its performances to audiences. Further details regarding the specific agreements and the timeline for performances at the Alexela hall are expected to be released in the coming days.
