Milmech Systemsi Develops Inexpensive Mine-Clearing Robot

Viljandi, Estonia – Milmech Systemsi, a local technology company, has developed a novel robot designed for clearing anti-personnel minefields. The project, spearheaded by CEO Andero Väljaots and development manager Mehis Vinn, focuses on creating a practical and cost-effective solution for this challenging task. The robot is engineered to systematically clear a 1-meter-wide path through contaminated areas, specifically targeting areas affected by mine threats.

A key feature of the device is its robust design, capable of withstanding the blast wave from a tank mine explosion. Initial testing of the robot has been conducted in Nursipal, an area utilized for military training exercises. The Estonian military is currently planning to evaluate the robot’s performance against tank mines during trials scheduled for the spring.

Milmech Systemsi’s innovative work has garnered recognition, with the company nominated for the Aasta Disain 2025 design competition. The development highlights a focused approach to addressing the ongoing need for effective mine-clearing technology. The robot represents a significant step forward in safely and efficiently removing dangerous mine hazards.
