Marathon runner Forne Roberton has been handed a lifetime ban following the discovery of the banned substance EPO in a sample taken after finishing 36th at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic marathon. The 33-year-old New Zealand runner was suspended in May of last year. According to Roberton, he was mistakenly injected with EPO instead of a coronavirus vaccine during a training period in Kenya in February of last year. He visited a local medical facility where he believed he received a vaccine. Roberton submitted documentation regarding the incident, but his lawyer stated that the submitted information was inaccurate. The anti-doping violation led to the implementation of a lifetime ban. The case involved a doping test.
