The Kingissepa Cultural House band, formerly known as Wiking, originated in 1972 following a relocation to the Saare Kaluri kolhoosi due to a more favorable offer. Young men and women joined the group, and the name was changed to Ilon. Slavik Vanem, the leader of the new band, passed away this summer.

Vanem reported initially encountering a “musical infection” in 1968 while a student in eighth grade, when his uncle Herman Keidong instructed him on tuning a guitar. The group established a regular practice space, often referred to as a pool, for rehearsals and performances.
