Russian President Vladimir Putin visited military exercises in eastern Russia on Tuesday, according to reports. The “East 2022” exercises, involving troops from several countries, are taking place as the Russian army conducts large-scale maneuvers in the east of the country. More than 50,000 soldiers are participating in the exercises, which began last week.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reports that forces from Belarus, China, India, Mongolia, Laos, and Syria are also involved. These military exercises are intended to demonstrate Russia’s close relationships with these nations, despite deteriorating relations with the West. The exercises are being conducted at training grounds in the eastern part of Siberia, the Far East, and the Sea of Japan.

The West is particularly focused on the participation of China and India. A photo of Putin at the event was released by the agency AR.
