The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, in collaboration with Corle OÜ, commenced construction on a new fiber optic cable project today. Minister Juhan Parts and Corle OÜ board member Aleksander Leonov participated in the initial digging, with the project aimed at delivering ultra-fast internet connectivity. The cable will run underground, but the final “last mile” connection to individual users has yet to be completed.

Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology Kristjan Järvan stated that Estonia’s reputation as a digital nation is under pressure, noting that the country lags behind the European average in data connection speeds and requires investment to achieve parity with its peers.
