Many novice gardeners make a common error when aiming to cultivate healthy, thriving plants: providing excessive amounts of nutrients too early in the growth process. According to Matogard sales manager Kaisa Ruumet, a key recommendation for beginners is to establish smaller, achievable goals to build knowledge and practical experience. A prevalent mistake observed among new gardeners is excessive fertilization.

“Unfortunately, many actions can be corrected,” Ruumet stated. “However, over-fertilization cannot be reversed.”

The foundation of successful plant cultivation lies within the soil. A frequent initial error involves utilizing soil formulated for mature plants on delicate seedlings.

Small seeds require a specific seedbed, distinct from nutrient-rich soil intended for larger plants. “The seed itself is vulnerable,” Ruumet explained. “Soil designed for established plants contains an excess of nutrients that can damage the seed, significantly reducing the plant’s chances of successful germination.”
