Jaanus Põlder, director of the Kiviõli Art School, received the Estonian Folkloin Council’s title of Mentor of the Year. The recognition acknowledges Põlder’s 30-year dedication to introducing folk music to children and young people. “I can almost guarantee that no one of my students will ever become a symphony orchestra musician,” Põlder stated, “But most of them will, can, and dare to play some tunes for their grandparents.” The Kiviõli Art School, under Põlder’s leadership, continues to foster an appreciation for music within the community.
