The Narva City Council has selected Iryna Yanovych and Alexander Openko as directors for two narva schools following a competitive process. The decisions were made by competition commissions on July 26, 2024, and the results will be submitted to the council for approval on August 7, 2024, at which point contracts will be awarded. Iryna Yanovych will serve as director of Narva Pikhklimayes school, currently holding the position of acting director and chairman of the Narva City Council.

Alexander Openko has been appointed director of Narva 6th school, a deputy head teacher and history and social studies teacher with experience as a narva guide and local historian. Inna Usmanova has been chosen as the director of Narva “Pingvin” kindergarten, having previously managed a kindergarten in Tartu. The selection process followed a competition with two candidates for each of the three positions.

The appointment of directors for Narva Pikhklimayes school has been a prolonged process, with Iryna Yanovych previously serving as the acting director following the resignation of Vyacheslav Konovalov in September 2022. Notably, Yanovych was dismissed from the position of director of Narva Krenholm school in 2022, a decision attributed to a lack of a master’s degree, though she contested the political nature of the dismissal. Yanovych has since completed her master’s degree studies at the Narva College of Tartu University, enabling her participation in the director competition.
