An elderly woman was saved from drowning at Toila beach in Tallinn on June 17, 2023. At approximately 14:13, a woman was found floating in the water by Teataja staff. The staff initiated resuscitation efforts, performing chest compressions, until an emergency medical team arrived on the scene. The team, assisted by the Sillamäe rescue team, continued resuscitation and successfully restarted the woman’s heart. At 15:03, an ambulance transported the woman to shore, where she was unconscious but showed signs of life. To date, 14 people have drowned in water accidents this year. Rescue services reiterated the importance of assessing swimming abilities before entering the water, utilizing designated swimming areas, and avoiding swimming while intoxicated. They also emphasized the need to monitor health, seek shelter during hot weather, and prioritize water safety, including swimming with a companion and educating vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly, about potential dangers.
