Hyundai rally team boss Cyril Abiteboul has affirmed that driver Esapekka Lappi is permitted to aggressively pursue opportunities during the upcoming Croatia Rally. Following a serious accident suffered by Lappi during the Mexico Rally on Saturday, Abiteboul stated that the incident stemmed from Lappi’s conservative approach. “He must push,” Abiteboul told DirtFish. “He himself said that since he did not push enough and approached more conservatively, that is why he made the millisecond error, which led to the known consequences.” Lappi, competing in his first season with the Hyundai team, currently holds eighth place in the championship standings. Prior to the Mexico Rally, Lappi secured seventh place in Sweden and eighth place in Monte. A points position was earned during the fourth stage in Croatia. Abiteboul emphasized Lappi’s demonstrated speed, referencing his performance in Sweden, and highlighted the importance of Lappi understanding his previous strategy.
