Estonian Goods Exports Rise Slightly in January, Imports Decline

TALLINN – According to data released by the Estonian Statistic Office on March 12, 2026, goods exports experienced a modest increase during January, while imports saw a decline. The figures reveal a four percent rise in exports compared to January 2025, alongside a two percent decrease in imports. In current prices, Estonian goods were valued at nearly 1.6 billion euros during exports, and over 1.8 billion euros were spent on imports.

This resulted in a trade deficit of 247 million euros. Notably, this deficit represents a decrease of 103 million euros compared to the same period in the preceding year. The primary drivers of these shifts were the increased exports of goods, particularly mineral products, and the continued trend of import activity.

The data highlights a complex picture of the Estonian economy, with domestic production showing growth in specific sectors while broader import demand remained consistent. The Statistic Office attributes the reduced trade deficit to factors including increased export volumes and a slight moderation in import values. Further analysis will be conducted to determine the specific contributing elements to these trends.

The figures underscore the ongoing importance of the European Union’s trade relationships for Estonia.
