Today’s show features language teacher Merilin Aruvee discussing this topic. While other countries have begun implementing approaches that integrate subject-related texts and reading/writing strategies with subject knowledge, this has not yet gained significant traction in Estonia. Merilin Aruvee’s doctoral thesis provides a framework for text-based subject-matter and language education. The thesis’s main findings, and how to develop more knowledgeably language-sensitive subject matter education across different lessons, were discussed with host Rein Olesk, communication manager at Tallinn University. The “Expert on air” series broadcasts informative and educational topics across fields including health, politics, education, art, and law. The show engages experts on current issues impacting society, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based answers to complex questions.
