Macaroni Remains Top School Food Choice in Estonia for 12th Year

A recent survey conducted by the school food service daily has confirmed that macaroni dishes remain the most popular food choice among Estonian students for the twelfth consecutive year. The findings highlight a consistent preference within the school food program. Alongside this popular choice, a broader trend is emerging regarding student engagement with food.

Research indicates that a significant number of Estonian children experience mental health challenges, with a contributing factor identified as a lack of understanding regarding food – specifically, a disconnect between children and the origins and preparation of their meals. This spring, a pilot program will introduce students to the fundamentals of cooking and food awareness. Hundreds of students across Estonia will participate in eating experiences within the school cafeteria, engaging directly with chefs and learning to appreciate the process of food preparation.

The initiative aims to address the identified gap in knowledge and foster a more mindful approach to food consumption among students. The focus is on building a stronger connection between students and the food they eat within the school environment.
