Estonia to Conduct HIMARS Exercises, Secure Additional Rocket Systems

Estonia will conduct firing exercises utilizing High Mobility Rocket Artillery Systems (HIMARS) across the islands of Saaremaa and Muhu in July 2025. The exercises are part of ongoing efforts to bolster the nation’s defense capabilities. This development follows a recent contract between the Defence Forces Central Command and Lockheed Martin, the American defense industry company, to procure three additional HIMARS rocket launchers.

The agreement also includes a significant investment of nearly $11 million in the Estonian defense industry. Last spring, Estonia received its initial six HIMARS rocket launchers through a previous purchase from Lockheed Martin. With the addition of three new systems, Estonia is solidifying its partnership with the world’s largest arms manufacturer.

The acquisition underscores Estonia’s commitment to modernizing its artillery capabilities and enhancing its readiness for potential security challenges. The exercises are expected to further refine operational procedures and maintain the effectiveness of the HIMARS systems. This expansion of the HIMARS fleet represents a key element in Estonia’s ongoing defense strategy.
