An Austrian-registered private plane crashed in the Baltic Sea near Ventspils, Latvia, on September 4th. The aircraft, departing from southern Spain at 15:56 local time, was en route to Germany. According to Flightradar data, the plane altered its course twice, once in Paris and once in Cologne, before crossing the Baltic Sea, passing close to the Swedish island of Gotland.

At 20:37 local time, radar detected a rapid loss of altitude and speed, after which the plane was no longer detected. German and Danish military aircraft were deployed to conduct a search operation, but were unable to establish contact. The incident occurred in the sea.
