In 1972, a Soviet MiG fighter was shot down following an encounter with unidentified red spheres in Estonian airspace. The incident began when two MiG fighters were tracking two large red spheres. One of the MiGs responded with an air-to-air missile, successfully engaging one of the spheres.

The sphere then reportedly fired a red missile, resulting in the crash of the MiG fighter into the Gulf of Finland. The pilot’s parachute was subsequently recovered from the sauna of the Haapsalu forestry district.
