High Cholesterol Remains a Significant Health Concern in Estonia

Cardiovascular disease continues to be a leading cause of mortality for both men and women in Estonia, yet awareness of the critical role of cholesterol levels remains a key challenge. High cholesterol can develop silently, potentially damaging blood vessels over extended periods without noticeable symptoms. Recent statistics from Synlabi highlight a growing concern, particularly among women.

Analysis of cholesterol tests revealed that a substantial proportion of results were above the normal range. In 2023, 58 percent of all women’s cholesterol analyses exceeded the established threshold. This figure rose from 63 percent in 2022.

The data indicates that this issue is increasingly prevalent among women, including those who consider themselves healthy and in good shape. “It is very welcome that thanks to awareness-raising efforts, this figure has slightly decreased over the years, but still it is a significant number and shows that high cholesterol levels are a significant problem,” Synlabi stated. Continued vigilance and proactive health checks are recommended to address this ongoing concern for both men and women in Estonia.
