Sirje Helme to Continue Leading Estonian Art Museum for Two Additional Years

4 April 2026 – Sirje Helme, head of the Estonian Art Museum, will continue in her role for a further two years, following a decision by the SA Estonian Art Museum Council. The appointment solidifies Helme’s leadership following a recent recognition of her contributions. Seven years ago, Helme received the Lifetime Achievement Award, a moment she deemed insufficient to halt her continued dedication to the museum.

Despite being 77 years old at the time, Helme re-applied for the position, demonstrating her commitment to the institution. The Council, having considered three candidates, ultimately selected Helme’s preference for a two-year extension. This decision reflects the Council’s confidence in Helme’s experience and vision for the Estonian Art Museum.

Helme has served as head of the museum for 17 years. This extension allows Helme to continue her work at the museum, building on her established legacy. The appointment was finalized last week, aligning with Helme’s stated desire to remain at the helm for an additional term.
