Street trainers were established in Yyhyvi on September 10, 2022, as documented in a photograph by Peeter Lilleväli for Põhjarannik. The open-air gym, previously situated in the courtyard of an elderly residents’ home and rarely utilized, was relocated near the children’s playground on Hariduse Street. Aivo Tamm, from the Yyhyvi Rural District Board’s economic department, explained the decision.

“For several years, the open-air gym was located in the courtyard of the elderly’s home, where they hardly used it, and the townspeople could not get to the closed territory. Therefore, we decided to move the equipment.”

Children quickly adopted the new street trainers, while adult usage has been more limited. “It will take time.

Adults take longer to get used to, but we think that by offering classes for parents next to the playground, we are on the right track,” Tamm stated. The keywords are yyhyvi, street, trainers.
