The Italian Lisa Vittozzi won the women’s 12.5 km mass start race, having not been sure whether she would start at all before the race. Vittozzi started the race modestly: after the first shooting circuit she had to pass one penalty round, which lowered her to 16th place. By the time the leader had accumulated 34 seconds of loss, the commentators had already said that the race was over.
