Colombia began voting Sunday in parliamentary elections that will shape President Gustavo Petro’s final months in office and indicate whether the former dominant right-wing bloc is prepared for a political return. Approximately 40 million voters are choosing from nearly 300 lawmakers. The results will determine the composition of the Congress and provide a significant assessment of the political landscape ahead of the presidential elections in May.

Security forces, including reinforced security units, are present at polling stations in the Silvia municipality of the Cauca department in Colombia, where they are monitoring the participation of indigenous women from the Misaki people.
