Estonia Finalizes Contract for Chunmoo Rocket Launchers with Hanwha Aerospace

Viimsi, Estonia – The signing of purchase contracts for the Chunmoo twin rocket launchers took place at the Viimsi Estonian War Museum, marking a significant step in Estonia’s ongoing defense modernization efforts. Hanwha Aerospace’s head, Jae-Il Son, and Minister of Defence Hanno Pevkur were present at the event. The deal represents a continued partnership between Estonia and Hanwha, a leading south Korean defense industry company.

Estonia has previously acquired K9 Kõu self-propelled howitzers from Hanwha, and this latest agreement solidifies the nation’s reliance on the company’s expertise. Hanwha Aerospace has also announced plans for investment in Estonia, including the establishment of a factory for 40-millimeter ammunition and a maintenance and repair center for armored vehicles. However, the company has stated that this investment is contingent upon Estonia’s interest in purchasing their Redback battle vehicles.

Hanwha is offering millions in support for the Redback acquisition. This procurement continues Estonia’s strategy of bolstering its defense capabilities through strategic partnerships within the defense sector. Further details regarding the Redback vehicle’s potential role within the Estonian military are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
