Estonian Volunteer Heads to Amazon Rainforest for Teaching Role Maria Liis Alt, a 20-year-old Estonian woman, is embarking on a solo volunteer mission to the Amazon rainforest. Alt will be working as an English teacher and providing cleaning services within the region. The news was revealed following an appearance on Estonia’s “Õhtu!” television program on Channel 2. Alt’s decision to travel to the Amazon stems from a previous trip to Ecuador with her mother in January. The pair participated in a student exchange program and spent time in the Amazon rainforest, specifically within a national park. During this three-day experience, Alt developed positive relationships with local residents who emphasized the welcoming nature of the Amazonian people and their willingness to assist visitors. “I came here because I went on a trip with my mom to Ecuador in January. We had a student exchange in Ecuador and we wanted to see what life was like for him. During this trip, we also spent three days in the Amazon rainforest, right in the national park,” Alt stated. This year, Alt is dedicating herself to a longer-term volunteer role, contributing her skills to the communities within the vast amazon rainforest.
