Cyprus security forces had been anticipating a “serious incident” for several days prior to Monday’s drone attack on the Akrotiri military base. This anticipation stemmed from the detention of a 28-year-old Aserbaidjanian man and a 27-year-old Estonian woman, both suspected of potentially Iran-linked suspicious activity. A British soldier was present at the Akrotiri base when it was struck by a drone believed to have been dispatched by Iran.
