A deadly storm resulted in ten deaths in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on September 7th, 2022, according to authorities. The storm, one of the strongest in the last decade, impacted the southern coast of South Korea over Monday and Tuesday, causing widespread flooding of streets and buildings. Seven people were found deceased in a flooded underground parking lot in Phophane, and two individuals were rescued.

Additionally, two fatalities were reported in the city of Pyongyang and one in Kyongju. More than 47,000 people were compelled to evacuate from South Korea due to the storm. The storm caused damage to approximately 12,000 houses and buildings.

Almost 90,000 households experienced a loss of power, with the vast majority of customers having since been restored. Prior to the storm’s arrival, over 600 schools were closed and approximately 250 domestic flights were canceled by local airlines.
