On Suicide Prevention Day, an open-air installation of 186 empty chairs will be unveiled on the esplanade in front of the city hall in Tallinn. The installation is intended to draw attention to the high number of suicides in Estonia. In 2017, 183 suicides were commemorated at Stroomi beach with 201 pairs of shoes.

Last year, 186 people died by suicide, with 149 of those individuals being men. Efforts are ongoing to decrease the rate of suicides in the country.

  1. It’s heartbreaking to see this progress, but the need for continued support and awareness remains critical.
