The Virumaa Teataja newspaper celebrated 50 years of operation alongside its 10-year anniversary on March 24, 2023. In 2022, the Rakvere Kaubandusliku Inventari Tehase (Rakvere Trading House Inventory Factory) seadmete remondi jaoskonna (equipment repair department) wire knitting team completed a project exceeding 79,500 square meters. This represented more than one-tenth of the planned area for the year. The newspaper reports that the current plan for 2023 is 800,000 square meters, with completion targeted for December 25th. Vaike Nupp is cited as one of the most productive and skilled knitters on the team, consistently working at nearly double the standard rate. Ten years prior, in 2013, the Rakvere Separate Company of the Estonian Defence League saw its membership rise to over 300. Following this increase, the Defence League Commander, Brigadier General Meelis Kiili, restored the unit’s status as a battalion. Lieutenant Colonel Aavo Pekri was appointed commander of the newly designated Rakvere Battalion, which is part of the Viru Battalion.
