Argentine goalkeeper Leandro Requena scored a goal from his own penalty area during a match against Colo-Colo, potentially setting a new Guinness World Record. The incident occurred on March 18, 2023, during a 3-1 victory for Requena’s club, Cobresal. In the 77th minute, with the score at 2-0, Requena struck the ball from within his own goal area, directly into the opposing team’s net.

Brayan Cortes, the Colo-Colo goalkeeper, was caught off guard and subsequently stumbled after the ball struck him. TNT Sports Chile reports that the goal was approximately 101 meters (331 feet) in distance, which would surpass the current Guinness World Record of 96.01 meters (315 feet) set by Tom King in 2021. Requena stated that Cobresal manager Juan Silval confirmed the record attempt would be submitted.

However, Guinness World Records has not yet formally acknowledged the attempt. Tchiili Football Federation officials have requested precise measurements of the playing field. The video of the goal was widely circulated on social media.
