The City of Tallinn’s Planning Department will host a public exhibition of the detailed plan for a new telecommunications building located on Gonsiori Street. The exhibition, running from September 12th to September 26th, will allow interested parties to review the plans and visualisations of the proposed building. The detailed plan documents are available for public inspection at the Tallinn City Government House (Nunne tn 18) and the Tallinn City Government Information Centre (Vabaduse väljak 7).

The plan is also accessible online via the Tallinn Planning Register: https://tpr.tallinn.ee/ (detailplaneering nr DP045040). During the public inspection period, individuals can submit proposals and objections regarding the plan via email to kesklinn@tallinnlv.ee or tlpa@tallinnlv.ee or tiguposti teel. An open discussion will be held on November 3rd at 2:00 PM in the Tallinn City Government House to discuss the results of the public inspection.

The new telecommunications building will be constructed on an area between the National Broadcasting Radio House and the News House on Gonsiori Street. The detailed plan permits a building up to six stories high and two underground stories. It also aims to renovate the existing urban space, provide pedestrian access to Raua Street and Kreutzwaldi Street, and add green areas to the area.

According to Tallinn City Councillor Monika Haukanõmm, the project will create a cohesive logistical complex for ERR’s broadcasting and television operations. The architectural firm Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid, the winners of the 2019 design competition (“Green Linen”), will design the building. The competition aimed to develop a realistic and cost-effective solution that considers the specific conditions of the historic site and ensures a modern, energy-efficient building with low operating costs.

The new building will be located in the southern part of the existing broadcasting complex, which was built in 1972 following modernist urban planning principles. The building, recognized as an architectural landmark in 1997, is a prominent feature of the Gonsiori and Kreutzwaldi Street intersection. Access for ERR transport will be provided via a ground-level parking facility on Gonsiori Street.

Pedestrian routes will be created from surrounding streets, and the existing pedestrian area on Gonsiori Street will be expanded.
