Andrus Durejko, head of Eesti Energia, faces expectations from the state as its owner, including the processing of oil shale and ensuring energy security for Estonia at a sustainable and competitive price. “Some of my former colleagues have said that what you are doing there is fine,” Durejko stated. “I told them that we will stop it as soon as you agree that your mobile network will only work when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing.

Then it will be another story.” Durejko, who has served as chairman of the board for the past half a year and previously worked for Ericsson, manages the company’s units in Estonia and Latvia. He believes the transition to renewable energy is unavoidable, but it must be done with a realistic step and reasonable cost.
