A traffic accident involving a bear cub occurred on the Tallinn-Tartu highway on March 22, 2023, at 18:33. A female bear, accompanied by three cubs, was observed near the ecoduct between Koosa and Mao. One of the cubs was struck by a vehicle.

Following the incident, officials determined the cub’s condition warranted euthanasia. The driver responsible for the accident fled the scene. According to the Estonian Hunting Society, the increasing number of accidents involving large predators suggests a rise in their population.

Hunter Ruttar Roht noted that the accident occurred during daylight hours, when visibility for drivers is heightened, and advised increased caution.
