Dallas Mavericks basketball player Luka Dončić has filed a request to cancel the trademark registration “LUKA DONCIC 7,” currently held by his mother, Mirjam Poterbina. The Dallas Morning News reported that Dončić, who also plays for the Slovenian national team, initiated the action in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The trademark was established in November 2018 when Dončić was 19 years old and officially registered in January 2020. However, in July 2021, the player notified his mother that he no longer wished to utilize or register the trademark, aiming to develop his brand independently. Luka99 Inc., Dončić’s company, subsequently attempted to register “LUKA DONCIC” twice in September 2021, but these applications were denied due to the existing “LUKA DONCIC 7” trademark.
